Music #30: Music video´s wild buisness

the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladets reported about the Swedish rock band Dynamite and their production of a music video to their song lock n load. the recording of a fake bank robbery set things in motion, a large police force were called to the scene. luckily the band got stopped by local police in the vicinity and released on the spot.

"It´s a bank robbery that opens the whole video, but if your recording a bank robbery maybe you should think it through. we just went with it" Mattias Karlsson from the band.

here´s the full video from that day, enjoy

Music #29: a magical night at Ullevi with the wizard Springsteen

half an hour before the concerts starting time the rain held up, it wasn´t that amazing sunshine as those who went on the friday got, but atleast we didn´t have to endure being wet and miserable under the concert.

when bruce and the E street band went out on stage they started the gig with the old creedence song who´ll stop the rain and from that song the concert just took off, it became a magical night, and I´m no hardcore fan, but like some of his music. but that saturday turned in to one amazing concert, and my girlfriend was sold after the end.

there were a few highlights for those hardcore springsteen fans, with some songs he usually don´t play, or so I´ve read in the papers, Frankie is supposed to be one of those. under sunny day he took up a little kid, might have been 6-7 years old who he gave the mike to. and the kid sang the lyrics to the chorus not half bad.

a while into tenth avenue freeze out when the lyrics the big man joined the band, the song just stopped and pictures of clarence clemons were shown on the big screens. and after that they played jungleland and there was clearly a moment that won´t ever come again.

so here´s another bit by the boss

gonna be the 2nd time I´ll see him, seen him once with the big man on sax, so will be interesting to see the change live since he´s passed away. so just gonna hold my thumbs and hoping that the rains gonna subside till the concert starts, here´s a bit with

Music #27: 4th day of Sweden rock

The last bands i saw the 2nd day were dimmu borgir who did ok and Sebastian Bach, That show kicked ass.

He was in a Good State of mind and gave the audience what they wanted with a bit of a silverlining! Dee snider came up and did a duett on the twistedSong were not gonna take it and the Old skid rowSong youth gone wild!

The 3rd day the Nordic weathergods were against us and it poured down. Skipped Most bands but later in the evening it cleared up and i enjoyed darkness. It was pure Energy from the first to the last Tone. Must have been one of the best shows this weekend!
Motörhead did a Good show as always!

Sitting here on the 4th day at 4.30 pm a bit wingclipped. Been fucking Cold all day, Windy as hell. Girlschool did an ok show and electric boys were fabolous as always. Tonight it's the big finale with mötley crue

music #24: less than a month to sweden rock festival

Sweden Rock Festival

29 days to go and then were of to the southern parts of sweden to listen to good music, drink beer and hang with the best people. it´s the 13th time I´m heading there in the last 14 years. seen a lot of good shit there ranging from southern rock like blackfoot to classic metal like Heaven & Hell.

I´ve had the pleasure to see Dio a couple of times at this festival, god bless his soul (I´m an atheist but in this case I´m religious.). before i started to visit this festival i was really narrowminded in my musictaste, but it broaden my horizons.

Have some favourites coming this year, here´s one of them

Music #23: one third of the beastie boys gone, R.I.P Adam Yach

Rolling Stone Beastie boy Adam Yach...
Blabbermouth metal musicians react...

one third of the beastie boys, Adam Yach has died at the age of 47. he was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 and the beastie boys hasn´t played live since. he managed to attend the beastie boys inauguration to the rock n roll hall of fame this year. Beastie boys broke allot of new ground with their way of ignoring rules altogether.

Adam yach directed allot of beastie boys videos under an alias. havent´s seen them and regretting it now, but a little late to that. Rest in peace mate and shake the clouds up there. here´s some of the videos

Music #23: woodbash festival

Woodbash or skogsröjet as it´s called in swedish is a festival held in 10-11 august. It´s a very small festival and very affordable, about 40 bands in 2 days for about 800 swedish crowns or about 120 usdollars.

I´ve visited this festival 2 times before and it´s quite cosy. It´s held in the woods northwest of the swedish town norrköping. the lineup this year is awesome with bands like Alice Cooper, Testament, Anvil, Doro and Unisonic

I´m heading there, think it will be one of this summers highlights. I was too young when the classic lineup  of helloween with Kiske and Hansen played so i will see them togheter now in the band

Music #21: imperial State electric rocked the house!

Damn! Imperial State electric yesterday was a blast! It just oozes 60's rock like the kinks and the who over it. Nicke Andersson knows how to handle a stage!
The bassplayer looked like he was just coming of the set from a german soft pornmovie from the 70's, the Other guitarrist had the looks of a 60's rocker.
They had real fun and just kicked in the overdrive from start! The sound live were far more impressive and dirtier than the albumversions. They played a whole heap of Songs, among them Shelterd in the sand, Rock science and deja vu.

Music #20: imperial State electric @bastionen Uddevalla

Tonight i'm off to enjoy Nicke Anderssons New project, imperial state electric. It was at first a solo project efter hellacopters laid Their shoes on the shelf.
But he quickly decided to form a band instead. So here's a Song by them.

Music #19: Axl´s Ego strikes again!

BB News Axl Rose declines...

The big ego strikes again, axl rose has declined to be taken into the rock hall of fame in absentia (it means that he wont be in the rolls for guns´n´roses inauguration to the hall of fame). a lot of people had their hopes up that the original setting would play toghether at the inauguraition of GnR into the hall of fame.

Slash made a statement that he would go into this with his blinders on. but it seems that one mans ego is far to big for this worl, namely Axl Rose. Many bands would jump on the chance to get into the rock hall of fame and set aside whatever quarrels there may be for that one day, after all, it´s a big honor for most bands and musicians but for one.

But hey, it´s not like it´s unexpected of him. he´s been living in his little dreamworld and starting concerts late, as much as a couple of hours late. he´s in a battle with english promoters since he thinks they stopped him from delivering to his fans at the tour last year i think. they turned of the power at 02.00 at most of his events, but he started like an hour to late so can´t see what he´s complaining about.

Music #18: off to trollhättan to see In Flames

Tonight I´m gonna enjoy In Flames in a club gig at trollhättans "people´s house" or folkets hus as the swedish term is. In Flames is doing a small tour of club gigs in sweden, going back to their roots you could say. And I think it will be a hell of a gig, gonna be fun to see them in a small venue.

So we have to have a song by them

Music #17: the inventor of the marshallstack is dead!

BBC News Jim Marshall dead

One of the crucial pioneers for the rock n roll was Jim Marshall, the creator of the marshall stacks. without him rock n roll and Heavy metal wouldn´t sound the same. he died at the age of 88 and his death has made an echo all over the rock world.

Slash and Nicki Sixx were among the many who tweeted about his death. he will be missed for his contribution to the rock n roll world, a big salute to him!

Music #16: Mustasch live at liseberg, gothenburg

went to the concert with my expextations rather low since I haven´t been that pleased with mustasch live the last couple of times I´ve seen ´em. this was my ninth or tenth time i saw them, lost count, some bands just become a blur of how many times you´ve seen ´em ´cause it´s quite often you do.

this gig they had a temp behind the drums, jejo perkovic (from the band the bear quartet) looked alot like jesus from the big lebowski and did a damn fine job banging the skin. They were on a good mood and the general Ralf Gyllenhammar howled in the mic and was his jolly good old self. they played their latest album from A to Z and then after that they went on to their hits.

and the audience loved the hit cavalcade eventhou they were receptive to the new album, but as always, you love what you´ve heard the most. songs like I hunt alone, Down in black and black city got the crowd wild! I had a good time with my girl by my side!

a song from the new album

Music #15: tomorrow I´m off to gothenburg and Mustasch live

Music #14: Electric Boys were kick ass!

Bonafide who opened the show were pretty much ok, no more no less. they had a heavy influence of AC/DC in the bagage and nice to drink beer to and hear in the background.

Electric Boys opened hard and just kept speeding down the track, they played the classics like lips n hips but lots of the new material like angel in an armoured suit. Conny Bloom was his usual self, a little arrogant like a rockstar should be, not a tad to much like some can become. He just hammered that guitar like hell. I enjoyed the show.

Music #13: off to malmoe and liveshow

I´m of down to malmoe and my mate to enjoy a liveshow with Electric boys and Bonafide at the club KB. I´m looking forward to see Electric Boys again, think it´s my ninth time or so, lost count as I have with many bands I´ve seen more than thrice atleast.

Bonafide I´m not familiar with, so might be a nice experience, who knows. Eletric Boys play a mix of Funk & Metal and I just love it, It has a nice groove to it, and the frontman, Conny Bloom is one if not the best rockstar sweden has had. and ofcourse I´m bious since it´s one of my favourite bands.

so enjoy a song from their latest album

Music #12: Göteborg rock fest

Just stumbled over this little event in the end of april at parken in gothenburg. a small 3 day festival with rocknroll for 250 swedish crowns, quite a good price to discover new music and maybe new favourites.
I´m seriously considering on going to this, probably gonna be a good party with live music and beer.

Music #11: some thoughts around music

Music or rythmic sound has been with us since we humans first discovered that we could make sounds. since thousands and thousands of years it´s evolved and weaved itself into the very fabric of our exicstance. It emotes our feelings nomather what they are, negative or positive. Music feeds us with energy and creates a sort of synergy with our emotions.

Music is under continous evolution troughout our existance.  the only way to get music before the 20th century were livemusic, and then there weren´t that much exchange between countries, or should i say exchange between the music the masses listend to. the royalties and nobilty (atleast in europe) had an extensive exchange of culture of all sorts under the last halfpart of the last millenia.
so under that time the only way for the masses to listen to music was from folk musicians, and thus there were a distinction from country to country, althou some countries had a similiar culture, so in scandinavia the folk music is quite similar to eachother.

when steamships were introduced under the last part of the 19th century, the exhcange between countries escalated, and music were affected too. the travelling time increase alot from the sailing days. so music influences flowed faster over the borders. from the steamers the next big impact on music was the invention of appliances that could record and replay music. that, with the invention of radio started the globalism in the music world.

and with the aeroplanes and the aviation industry the musicians could travel between countries in notime atall and the music had no borders, for good and bad. the music started to sound similar, but still it was divided into cultural borders, for example the western world, the eastblock and so forth.

today music is just a click away, and the big recordindustry giants missed the train and now they´re trying to cut their losses by getting into the action again. they lost time and money by ¨tackling downloading from the wrong ends instead of making better and easier alternatives than downloading for free on the internet.

the downside of downloading MP3`s is that physical recordstores are on the incline, I miss going through a recordstore and sorting throu the records and looking for something new and interesting that way and not just throu the internet. now i have to go 80 km to get to a recordstore at all.
but on the other hand i found loads and loads of music i would have missed throu programs like spotify, but i still miss the stores.
So i wonder whats the next step for music is, since the money rules it completly.

We´ll take a song by probably the biggest swedish group ever

ABBA - Money, Money, Money

Music documentary #12: Lemmy, a legend!

Lemmy=God? pretty fucking close anyways. Lemmy´s one of "the" big icons in the metal world. Here´s one documentary about motörhead and if you like this one i can recommend the lemmy documentary from 2010 i think it was. the classic setting of motörhead is the current one and been around for about 20 years or so.

Lemmy, Phil Cambell och Micky Dee tour frequently, releases albums on a regular basis, eventhou it always almost sound alike, it´s like them as it is with AC/DC, you know what you get before you buy the record. so enjoy Lemmy and his boys!

Music documentary #10: an anthropologists journey through metal

Back in ´03 when i started my to study cultural anthropology at Uppsala University my plan was to go into music and the culture it builds. I wanted to explore Metal and rock in detail and music in general, the examing bit wasn´t for me even though i thoroughly enjoyed studying the subject. Guess i hadn´t the discipline when it comes to studying when there were so much distraction around like concerts, women and alcohol, even world of warcraft squeezed in on my attention a bit.

But here we have a Canadian anthropologist and metal head who does what i wanted to do, so enjoy his trinp inside the rock and metal world. I might object to some of his classification of the music but that's only a bracket, he´s done a major job at it and deserves much credit!

the song will be

the darkness - I believe in a thing called love

Music #10: Graveyard last friday, what a show

this friday i went to Mortens, a local joint here in Uddevalla to enjoy Graveyard. A gothenburgband with the roots in the 70´s rock´n´roll era. I antisipated a good show, but man were i wrong, It was a fucking great show!

They started it by blowing up the steam like a steamtrain and then just kept on speeding ahead. the crowd went wild and just followed on the ride. the drummer kept hitting the drums like a whirlwind, looking like the Animal from the muppets behind the drumset.

the singer went on like he had no lungs at all, he just poured his heart out. they went all out for the audience, and the audience went all out for the band. at the last songs the crowd were in extasy! It was one of the better shows i went to in recent years. If they come to a town near you, go see them!

tonights song will be one with graveyard

Music documentaries #7: Heavy Metal Louder than life

think what the music changes over time. What was really hard and mean in the 70´s and was honored with the term Heavy Metal is kinda tame if you place it besides the Heavy Metal of today.
But at the same time i refuse to name it something other just ´cause they set the ball rolling, without them, the metal of today wouldn´t exist.

there are a couple of big legends in this documentary, so enjoy!

Music #4: Backward masking, hillarious theories

a site devoted to backward masking

Today to a dear subject among moral panicists and christian fanatics, backward masking in Heavy metal, or among music in general that doesn´t have a christian connection?
In this modern age it´s easy to play music backwards, but before the MP3´s there were a massive task to take. and alot of technical instruments needed, that often the alleged recipiants of this backward masking didn´t possess and therefore weren´t able to hear the backward masking.

music documentary #6: Dancing with the devil

ha ha this documentary is so fucking hillarious! as usual it´s the "dangerous" Heavy Metal that stands in the firing line, PMRC is in on a corner, mostly it´s christian fundamentalists that stands highest on the barricades. There are some sensible people in the documentary too.

Music #3: Roky Erickson, forgotten musical genious extraordinare!

Wikipedia Roky Erickson

Roky Erickson, this higly underappreciated and for many unknown musical genious. He started his carrer fronting the psychadelic band 13th floor elevators in the late 60´s. he was arrested for illegal posession of maruijuana so he played the insane card to avoid going to jail (this gives me vibes of mcmurphy from one flew over the coocoo's nest) and he became institutionalised in ´69. Under 3 years he was treated with ECT
and psychotropic drugs, and this scarred him for life.

Music documentaries #3: Metal, the most dangerous thing there is?

As a metalhead/hardrocker you´re just used to defend your choice of music and culture. People choose to believe missconceptions and prejudices against this subculture. One person who has been attacked the hardest and had to stand up for a whole music community was Dee Snider in the 80´s.

Music #2: Lillasyster Live was a blast!

Last nights concert by Lillasyster was so damn good! when the intro to "total panik" sounded i got a vibe that this is going to be a kick ass concert! when the song started it was like a jackhammer slammed you in the chest and just hammered the music right into your body, you couldn´t stand still even if you wanted to. they "turned the knob to eleven" and the pace just increased.

Music #1: Soon of to Gothenburg and Lillasysters Albumrelease party!

Tonight I´m heading for Gothenburg and to Lillasysters albumrelease, gonna be a blast, 8th time i see them, they´re always delivering a magificent performance and the audience moshes like hell. gonna be a pain tomorrow morning, with aches allover, but it´s worth it!

Allright here's a review of the Swedish band lillasysters (littlesister) latest album, released this Week. It's their third album, hencefort the title 3. They've put a Swedish touch on the nu-metalgenre, if you wanna Place 'em in a genre. I'm not that fond of genres, metal is metal in whatever form it's played.

Music documentaries #2: Suicide Trial in the 80`s

well, Time to forge the heavy metal while the iron is hot, yeah i know it´s cheezy ;-). here comes another documentary with Judas Priest in the center this time it´s about the trial held against them in the 80´s where the parents of two youths attempting to comit suicide. one succeded and the other survived, the parents blamed the music and accused it of having sublime messages in it to lure the listener to commit suicide.

Music documentaries #1: Judas Priest

1980 Judas Priest released a ground breaking record, British Steel. This record has had a significant influence in the way you define "the sound of Heavy Metal". Rob Halford a.k.a "the metal god" voice is quite unice and formed countless of vocalist in the genre. Tipton & Downing evolved the way you could use two guitarist´s, being 2 lead guitarists and using twinharmonies to create a thicker sound instead of the Lead and backguitar´s that were the standard formula.
